Description: House nr. 2 - Amsterdam, Restaurant D'Vijff Vlieghen, Spuistraat 294 Amsterdam
History: Since the 1950's KLM started giving away 'One for the Road' packaged in these adorable 'house' bottles to passengers in Royal Class and then World Business Class. KLM was established on Oct. 7th, 1919, so there are now 102 different liquor houses, one for each year. Every October 7th, the founding date of KLM, a new house is introduced. The miniature houses used to be hand-painted in the Netherlands so they were called "Delft Blue" Houses. In 1995 they started being produced in Hong Kong and then were called "Blue Delft" Houses. These KLM houses are extremely collectible, many of the Delftware KLM miniatures, are in fact replicas of buildings found in the Netherlands, mostly in Amsterdam. A few however are designed to replicate the architecture of canal houses.
From 1952 these houses are given as a present to passengers on board every KLM Intercontinental flight in business class. Each passenger baby or grown-up, paying or non-paying one house. These original Delft Blue miniature houses are real copies of the gable houses alongside the canals in Amsterdam and from time to time for a change also from other historical towns in Holland.
The KLM Miniatures content is Young Dutch Bols Jenever, distilled by the Bols distilleries.
The App Store has an app that contains the history of each house, its location, and photos. You can keep track of the houses in your collection and even add notes for each. It can be downloaded for free.
