Traditional Masks from Guatemala, Dog and Jaguar
Traditional Masks from Guatemala, Dog and Jaguar
€130.00
Description: Two colourful hand-carved, hand-painted wooden masks from Guatemala. Made by Guatemalan artisans and bought second hand. “These traditional masks are used by many indigenous groups in the performance of dances and pageants. The exact meanings of these ceremonies may be long forgotten, but they typically enact a mythical story intended to bring fertility, yield a good harvest or scare away evil spirits. By putting on another face, the mask wearer magically enters an altered state.”
